Monks Brook u3a arranges trips on a regular basis for all members (you do not have to join the Group). These are currently organised by the Questers and the Green Fingers Groups. They will be advertised at the Monthly Meetings, in the Newsletter and on the website. Our outings are usually only available to members of Monk's Brook u3a but if we find we have spare spaces nearer the time of the event we do open them up to other u3as, family and friends.
If you wish to come on any of these trips or outings please come and talk to us at the monthly meetings or contact us. All details will be in the Newsletters and on the Website.
For the first visit of 2026 the Green Fingers group has chosen a garden very close to home:
16 Lakewood Road, Chandler’s Ford SO53 1ES on Friday 24th April at 2.30 p.m.
This ¾ acre garden is colourful in spring with azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, trilliums and erythroniums under old oaks and pines. There are ponds, a bog garden and a kitchen garden. Home-produced honey is for sale. Hampshire Wildlife Trust gave them an Award for their Wildlife Garden, and Anne Swithinbank described it as “A lovely tranquil garden”. The NGS awarded them a sundial in recognition of their having been opening for thirty years.
Cost – includes tea and cake - £10.
Payment in advance; online bank transfer preferred:
Sandra has again agreed to open her garden for a plant/produce swap and Cream Tea. There is some parking on her forecourt, space in Chalvington Road nearby and bus-stops not far away.
The garden will be open from 2 to 4 pm and tea will be served around 2.30 pm.
The cost will be £4 to include the Cream Tea. Please bring along any plants/cuttings/seedlings/ produce you would like to swap, but there is no need to bring anything at all. Produce can include bought items such as fruit, also jam and baking. The area round her pool has been remodelled and weather permitting, there will be a chance to swim! No cash is exchanged for items brought or taken and the proceeds will be given to a charity.
Please sign up by the May meeting so that Sandra knows how many to expect. If you decide later, please let Sue know.
Please pay Sue, preferably in cash, but if necessary by bank transfer to her account.
